Well our last 3 lowlines to calve thought they would help us out and all had bull calves by DP Park Extreme! 3 super calves with birth weights between 27kgs and 31kgs. Mother Verity and daughter Violet both calved the same day and Verity's sister Snow White finished off our hat trick 2 days later! We are very impressed with Extreme's 1st crop of calves. See individual cows for details.
We now get a break until late December.

Heifers, heifers and more heifers! With 3 calves to go, we have had 13 calves for 11 heifers! 3 due in the next week or so, then our charolais are due in December along with 1 remaining lowline. Hopefully there are a few bulls in there somewhere.
12/09/2011
Calving has well and truly commenced, we are up to 10 calvings for 9 heifers and 1 lonely bull calf. Sadly 2 of these heifers did not make it. We still have another 10 lowline calves to go as well as our 5 charolais to calve in December.
Of the above calves 4 of the heifers are by Ardrossan Jamberoo by AI, a great result as 4 cows were inseminated and all had a live heifer! We also have calves by first time sires DP Park Enforcer and Extreme and 1 heifer by Broken Arrow Panmure. See our cow page for individual cows calving outcomes.
It's still very wet but cows are coping well and are probably still a little fat!
Dave and I are looking forward to having some holidays from work soon and finally having some time to spend with our cows.

Argio Park Takeeta has given us our second calf of the year and our second heifer! Another big girl, she was 26kg but Takeeta did a great job for a first calf. Her name will be DP Park Geneva.
We did have a third heifer born this week to our commercial heifer, but sadly she was born dead after complications.
So 3 calves for 3 heifers! We are more than happy for this trend to continue all year as we have another 25 calves to come!
14/04/2011
Athanlee Snowbelle, early on 12/04 gave us just what we ordered! A heifer by Ardrossan Jamberoo (his first heifer in Australia). She is 25kgs, big and strong and well covered. The weather is not being kind to her with wind and rain pretty constantly since she was born. She finally had a nice lay in the sunshine this afternoon, first time she has been warm. She has been named DP Park Gossip Girl.
We have also set up a facebook page so feel free to visit us there - DP Park Australian Lowline Angus Stud
Orders taken now for sides of beef @ $13kg (average 60-65kg), cut and bagged to your specifications (frozen if required) after being hung for 3 weeks creating beautiful tender meat. Sides will be readily available from September but we have 1 remaining 2009 steer available to be done as 2 sides now, so phone or email if you are interested.

Well summers over, what we got of it! Lots of rain kept grass green all summer and we are going into autumn with probably the best feed ever. The concern now will be how wet we get over winter as ground did not dry out and will waterlog pretty quickly. Hopefully we wont get as much rain as last winter.
We have been looking at Lowline/Charolais crosses for sometime for their carcase traits so we were very excited to purchase 5 purebred commercial yearling charolais heifers in February. They are settling in nicely and happily running with DP Park Mercury (they are taller than him already!) We will look forward to our first crosses in December.
Our lowlines females were pregtested this week. We have approx 25 calves due this year by Yarra Ranges Jackaroo (AI), Ardrossan Jamberoo (AI), Ardrossan Richmond (AI), Broken Arrow Panmure as well as DP Park's Mercury, Extreme and Enforcer.
Weaning has commenced. We have retained 6 bulls from the Autum 2010 drop and they are currently being yard weaned and halter broken. We normally only keep a couple but these were standouts. They are Floyd, Fortune, Freight Train (all by Broken Arrow Panmure), Flight and Fiddle (by Snowy Mountains Banjo), and Formidabull (by DP Park Mercury). Weaning weights at 6 months from 158kg to 178kg. Some will be offered for sale so feel free to contact us for details.
Once the bull calves are done, it will be weaning time for our 6 heifers and the steers. We can then expect our first G calf with Athanlee Snowbelle due to calf to Adrossan Jamberoo 18/04/2011.

Well, its the end of December and its been a busy time for us. December has ended up being our 2nd highest rainfall month for the whole year! With 180mm for December, 2010's rainfall has totalled 1285mm, well over the average for this area of 1000mm. This makes for positives and negatives. Hoof problems have been a big factor this spring but on the bright side, we dont think the grass will dry off for a long time and it's still growing like its early spring.
We have more feed than our cattle can handle but weather wise, the poor cattle do not have a clue. One minute it's hot and they are puffing and panting and the next, it's rain, wind and cold. They can not decide whether to shed their winter coats or not.
We decided this year to get accredited in the National Johnnes Program and as of March 2010, we are now MN1.
Congratulations to John and Natarsha Canny of Yarra Ranges Lowlines on the purchase of heifers Dancer, Dazzle, Eternity, Eden, Esme, Echo and Finesse from DP Park. They, very astutely, also purchased a share in our young, up and coming, sire DP Park Extreme who is a full brother to Dazzle. We are very pleased that Yarra Ranges has purchased our youngstock and we hope they breed on, as it was a hard decision to part with some of them.
We only kept 2 bulls entire from our 2009 calf crop. Extreme (15 months) and Enforcer (16 months) are already working, with Enforcer's first calf due in late April 2011. Hopefully we can expect Extreme's first calves from mid June 2011. Majority of our cows have been AIed, so will wait for our preg tests early in the new year.
This year's calves are growing and several are standouts already. Our first 3 heifer calves born, Fabulous, Flashdance and Faith, all by Broken Arrow Panmure, are showing exceptional length and type with excellent daily weight gains. These 3 girls are definitely joining our breeding herd and are not for sale. We also have 3 bull calves that will be retained and we are really looking forward to them growing up. 2 are also by Broken Arrow Panmure and 1 is out of our Panmure daughter, Southern Cross Xcellence, by DP Park Mercury, making this impressive little bull a half brother to Dazzle and Extreme.
We hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year and that 2011 is a great year

Well winter is over but its still raining! Had 16 inches of rain over winter and already over 7 inches so far this spring. Cattle got through it ok apart from some hairless legs and some mud fever. Local farmers saying some of the flooding the worst in 60 years.
We had a good 6 week calving from 12/08 to 25/09. We got 8 heifers and 12 bulls. A couple of stand out bull calves that we will watch grow out and several very special heifers - check individual cows for their offspring. The cows that we wanted to have heifers, did so with no complaints there!
We Aied Athanlee Snowbelle to Ardrossan Jamberoo and she has preg tested in calf. She is due to calf 18/04/2011 with what will be one of the first Jamberoo calves in Australia. Jamberoo was bred by Peter and Jeanette Stebbins of Ardrossan Lowline Stud and exported to America, he has since been collected and had his semen imported back to Australia. We are looking forward to this calf and hopefully will have several more Jamberoo calves later in 2011.
Keep checking back for updates as we will add our 2 young bulls Enforcer and Extreme to our bull page as soon as the weather allows us to get some decent photos. We will also add some young heifers to either our Cow or For Sale page.
We now have steers available from 6 months at $2.00 per kg live weight and also half sides of grass fed beef at $10.00 per kg (cut to your specifications). Please contact us for further details.

Well winter is upon us. Plenty of rain but still plenty of feed and cattle
are going very well, we are more worried about them having too much of a good
thing as calving is fast approaching. We have 23 calves due from mid
August to mid September.
We are looking forward to these babies. Half are by our last years purchase, Broken
Arrow Panmure. We already have one 6 month bull calf by him and the standard
has been set. The others due are by DP Park Mercury and Snowy Mountains
Banjo, these will be their first calves. Mercury has very impressive Genestar results
which hopefully he will pass on to his offspring.
As the herd has built up, we will have more stock available for sale including cows and
heifers in calf, weaners and bulls. See for sale page for more details. We also have
steers available on a $ per kg liveweight basis so feel free to contact us for details.
Check back regularly as we will be updating as our cows calve.

Well spring and summer are over. It was a great summer down here, the grass had hardly dried out when rain came again and now we are green again. The cows are looking great and they are even starting to think about winter coats with several looking a little hairy.
We ended up with 16 'E' calves for 2009, half males and half heifers. 4 Bulls calves have been retained and weaned, and weaning is about to commence for the steers and heifers.
Emotion, our little heifer, who we hand raised, spent 4 months living in our dog kennel. She is now weaned and living in out in the paddock with the big girls but she still thinks Pamela is her mum.

We had fun mixing and matching our cows to bulls and will be waiting to see what we get from August 2010. Our first 'F' calf is already here, Athanlee Snowbelle obviously likes to calve in January as that 2 in a row now, either of which were intended to be that time. Hopefully this time we can keep her empty until we are ready to join her, looking at doing some AI with her, Dazzle and Tarkeeta around June, still deciding on bulls.
We have been looking into MVP results and according to information supplied by Pfizer on the 11/03/2010, our cow Murrumbong Midnight Dancer has the highest Feed Efficiency result of all Lowline and Angus tested in America as well as all Angus tested in Australia. We are still waiting for official Australian Lowline results, but so far, we would expect her to be the highest here as well. All her tested offspring are also in the top 10% for Feed Efficiency as well, showing that she can pass it on (4 offspring by 4 different bulls). For more information regarding MVP results feel free to contact us.
All our pages have been updated, take a look, we have listed more of our stock. The last few D heifers will be added in the next few days.
The 16 'E' calves are not on our website but some are available for sale and we can email pics to interested parties. We have 23 calves due in August and September 2010, most will be for sale. If you are after stock out of one of our cows, just ask, we may have one available.
We always have stock for sale, and if you like something that is not on our For Sale page, still feel free to contact us, we may be able to work something out.

Well it's been a time of highs and lows.
We sadly lost our gorgeous paint colt at 5 weeks after we battled for weeks to save him, it wasn't to be and he was laid to rest 7th October. His dam Shestrikesmyfancy is now up for quick sale, she is too good to sit in the paddock here and we will not breed again. See Horse page for details.
Also on the 7th October our last heifer to calve had a lovely little heifer, but she didn't think so, she up and ran away! We tried for days to get them to bond but mother Blossom, did not want her.
So we are now bucket rearing Emotion who is a month old. She is a real character, she lives in the dog kennel so is having an identity crisis!

She is growing out beautifully and who knows, you may see her in the show ring in the future.
We also purchased a cow and 2 heifers from Argio Park's dispersal sale, see them on Our Cows page. We feel that they will compliment our herd and will be looking forward to their calves in the future.
It's joining time again so that will keep us busy for next few weeks sorting out which bulls for which cows, and then waiting for the resulting calves next year to see if we got it right.
Then it's time for hay, so we are keeping busy.
Feel free to check out our For Sale page and to contact us if you are interested in any cattle.

Well its been a busy 3 weeks here at DP Park.
10 of our 13 calves due have arrived as well as our Paint mare foaling a stunning Paint Colt.
The weather has been terrible, over 6 inches of rain for August, paddocks are just mud, and it doesn't look like letting up yet.
In the worst week of weather we had 7 calves in 5 days.
Cows just love to calve in this weather dont they, I am sure it is just to make us stress out.
Check Cow Page and For Sale Page for individual calf details but so far 10 calves for 6 heifers and 4 bulls.
Calves are all by Snowy Mountains Max and Southern Cross Cruiser and from what we have seen so far we are very pleased.
Only 3 left to calve, 1 in the next week or so and the other 2 around the end of September.
We are checking twice a day, just to make sure that all calves are still ok, they are poor little mudcovered creatures at the moment so we are looking forward to nice spring weather so that they can start to behave like calves. Hopefully paddocks will dry out a bit soon.
Pappy, our maiden Paint mare foaled 27th August 2009 at 10.45pm. Her waters kindly broke while I was checking her at 10.00pm, so we got to all watch (after we got our daughter back up) and with a little assistance from Dave, Paddy was born.
Paddy is a lovely colt with 4 white socks and a bonnet face and 2 blue eyes. We had to milk our mare and bottle feed him for 2 days as he couldn't latch on (thank you Dave who did the first 2 feedings himself while I was a work as well as a 1.00am feed so I could sleep), but Paddy has it down pat now and is doing it all on his own. He is rugged at the moment, hopefully when the rain finally stops he can go it alone. See pics of him on the Horse Page.
Regards

Only a couple of weeks until our first calves are due, can hardly wait.
Have several due in August and the rest in September. We also have our remaining Paint mare due to foal right around our daughter's birthday 30/08/2009. Surely someone will manage to deliver at the right time to make Kasey's day. Fingers crossed.
We have updated our For Sale page, feel free to contact us if you interested in any listed, including ones not listed for sale, you never know.

27/06/2009
Well, we thought it was time we had a News page. We will try to continually update this page.
Its been a very busy 18 months since we moved to Victoria. In that time we have increased our herd from 10 head to 32 head. We currently have 5 bulls,13 cows, 11 heifers and 3 steers.
We are now in a position to sell some, so feel free to browse through our website. If you are interested in an animal let us know, even if they are not listed for sale.
All weaner heifers are for sale registered or unregistered, we can email pics to interested parties. We can assist with transport within reason.
Its very cold now and cattle are extremely hairy and looking more like teddy bears! But with a little hay and still good pasture they are holding their condition well.
All our cattle, including calves, have been updated to the GeneSTAR MVP's based on an expanded panel of 56 DNA markers. The results listed are out of all cattle breeds tested so far (in excess of 20000 individual tests). We have listed the MVP % rank of our Lowlines with 1% being the best possible and 100% being the worst. We have the weaner's results available for interested parties also.
We are currently working with Pfizer using their yet to be publicly released MVP's mating outcome predictor computor program. For more information on GeneSTAR MVP's go to
http://www.geneticsolutions.com.au/content/v4_standard.asp?
We purchased Broken Arrow Panmure from Mugga Lowline Stud dispersal sale in March 09. Mainly due to the fact that our cow Southern Cross Excellence is by him and we are so impressed with her length and depth that we want a few more! View him on our Bull page. Buddy, as we call him, is a real character and has the best temperament, he loves a scratch, bread and apples, although his tongue is a bit slopey! He turns 12 this year and hopefully come spring he will finish filling back out. He came from no grass for all his life to deep green pastures and is a very happy boy.
We were very happy with our 2008 drop. We only got 1 bull calf, now a steer and 7 lovely heifers. The heifers all has great length and depth and are all weaned and growing out beautifully, if a little hairy! We have 3 autumn 09 calves still on their mums.
Its now only 7 weeks until we start calving and we are really looking forward to them as calves will be by Snowy Mountains Max (his second crop) and Southern Cross Cruiser (his first crop). We have 13 calves due.
Feel free to check back and see how our calving is going.
Regards
